Worldwide Flight Services plans to invest more in Hong Kong

31 Jul 2007

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), a French company specialising in airport and airline service, has announced its plan to expand investment and up its workforce by some 40 percent in Hong Kong following the renewal of its 'Airport Concierge' contract by the Airport Authority.

WFS, which provides ground handling services including cargo, ramp, passenger and technical services, was first awarded the franchise at the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) in 2002.

"Our development in Hong Kong has been supported by the constant growth of the air traffic at the airport and the desire from the Airport Authority to maintain HKIA at the forefront of service levels and innovation," explained WFS's Vice President, Commercial, Asia-Pacific, Mr Vincent Metais.

The company has had a presence in Hong Kong since 1996 and the city is now WFS's regional office in charge of the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East. In 2006, the WFS Hong Kong office oversaw the successful expansion into Bangkok and Singapore.

Announcing the additional jobs as well as substantial investment into upgrading technological capabilities, Mr Metais said, "We anticipate that staffing levels will grow by up to 40 percent over the coming two years, and we are planning significant investment in additional customer-service technologies. We are committed to ensuring that discerning visitors continue to enjoy a superlative experience when travelling through Hong Kong."

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Mr Charles Ng, said he was delighted that Hong Kong continued to provide such a fertile ground for foreign companies to expand their local and regional operations. "Hong Kong has an enviable position as Asia's leading travel and cargo business centre - and the signs are that this is not going to slow any time soon. Hong Kong's continuing integration with Mainland China, both as a tourist destination and as a cargo hub, is creating a rosy future for Hong Kong-based companies in the travel and logistics service sector," said Mr Ng.

"Hong Kong has long benefited from local and foreign expertise and we are delighted to see companies, such as WFS, exporting this best practice across their regional operations," added Mr Ng.

Starting in Hong Kong in 1996 with a staff of 35, WFS now employs more than 600 people locally and has operations at more than 100 airports around the world. For more information, please visit www.worldwideflight.com.hk.
