The Coming China Wars - Where They Will Be Fought and How They Can Be Won

China’s rapid industrialization, in conjunction with its burgeoning population, is placing it on a collision course with the rest of the world, according to economist and author Peter Navarro. In The Coming China Wars, Navarro previews these potential international conflicts, which he terms “wars,” by summarizing the eight areas of crisis—piracy/counterfeiting, illegal drugs, environmental pollution, demand for oil, imperialism on the world stage, a growing water crisis at home, increasing social unrest, and a demographic and healthcare crisis in the making—any of which could escalate into conflict abroad for China.

As China’s economy continues to grow at unprecedented rates, danger to the world community will also come from China’s coming “wars” from within. With too many dams, too little water, and much of it terribly polluted, China is facing a water crisis, and, as a result, a growing health crisis. Over the past decade, the number of protests and riots in China has risen to more than 100,000 annually. It is also a country that is rapidly graying, which means that China is facing a pension crisis far more severe than that of most Western countries or Japan.

It is a situation, Navarro believes, that requires radical remedies and reforms, both from within China and beyond its borders, remedies and reforms that will not occur until all nations gain a better understanding of the economic forces driving these political, financial, social, and environmental conflicts.

The Emerging Markets Century

Twenty-five years ago, most knowledgeable investors would not have dreamed of putting even a tiny portion of respectable capital into shares of “Third World” countries. Since then, a number of these countries have gone from Third World to Emerging, and a few are even considered to be major economic powers. Nonetheless, in the minds of many observers, the world-class enterprises that form the foundation of these economies are still widely regarded as second- or third-rate. The Emerging Markets Century picks up where The World Is Flat left off to reveal how this new breed of world-class multinationals is catching Western competitors unawares to such an extent that the household brand names of the West are in danger of becoming has-beens.

Based on 30 years of working and investing in emerging markets, Antoine van Agtmael (known for coining the term “emerging markets”), analyzes 25 of the top emerging world-class multinationals to provide investors and corporate management with unique insights into how these relative unknowns have come so far so fast, what they are doing right that their Western counterparts are doing wrong, and how the West can capitalize on the opportunities these companies represent.

A Whole New Mind: Moving from the Information Age to the Conceptual Age

This book describes a seismic - though as yet undetected - shift now underway in much of the advanced world. We are moving from an economy and a society built on the logical, linear, computer-like capabilities of the Information Age to an economy and a society built on the inventive, empathic, big picture capabilities of what's rising in its place, the Conceptual Age. A Whole New Mind is for anyone who wants to survive and thrive in this emerging world - people uneasy in their careers and dissatisfied with their lives, entrepreneurs and business leaders eager to stay ahead of the next wave, parents who want to equip their children for the future, and the legions of emotionally astute and creatively adroit people whose distinctive abilities the Information Age has often overlooked and undervalued.

In this book, you will learn the six essential aptitudes -- what I call "the six senses" -- on which professional success and personal satisfaction increasingly will depend. Design. Story. Symphony. Empathy. Play. Meaning. These are fundamentally human aptitudes that everyone can master.
