Thriving Through Talent Excellence

05 Dec 2025

Despite the challenging business environment over the past year, BOC Group Life Assurance Company Limited (BOC Life) has successfully maintained its leading position in Hong Kong's life insurance market. This remarkable achievement is attributed to the dedicated efforts and contributions of all employees. BOC Life always regards employees as the cornerstone and valuable asset to the company's success. Committed to leading a "people-centric" corporate culture, BOC Life actively cultivates talents through diverse initiatives and comprehensive benefits programs, fostering a dynamic and promising workplace that drives high-quality development.

Collaboration to Promote High-Quality Development
Talent Development is the Cornerstone for BOC Life¡¦s Long-Term Success

This year marks the tenth consecutive year that BOC Life has received the "Employer of Choice Award". Additionally, the company was honored with three other accolades, namely, the "Employee Experience Award", "Retention Strategy Award", and "Corporate Training Award". Reflecting on these achievements, Rita Wong, Chief Human Resources Officer of BOC Life, stated, "These awards are a great honor to our team. At BOC Life, we uphold the principle of ¡¦people-centricity and customer-first¡¦, striving to be the ¡¦Employer of Choice¡¦ in the workplace."
The ABC Strategy: A Holistic Approach to Employee Experience and Engagement

When asked about BOC Life¡¦s approach to fostering successful employee engagement, Rita summarized the company's strategy with three key elements: A.B.C. "Firstly, ¡¥A¡¦ stands for Adaptation, helping new colleagues swiftly integrate into the company and its culture. A series of on-boarding and orientation initiatives are designed to ensure their seamless adaptation to the work environment and jump start their journey, fostering a stronger sense of belonging with the company.
¡¥B¡¦ stands for Balance at Work & Life. Work-life balance is essential for employees to perform at their best. Last year, BOC Life organized more than 50 diverse wellness and ESG related activities, with employee participation exceeding 7,000 times. Over 80% of employees registered as corporate volunteers, reflecting a growing sense of employee engagement with the company.

As for ¡¥C¡¦, it stands for Competitive Employee Compensation and Benefits. BOC Life offers employees a highly competitive remuneration and family-friendly benefits package, including paid annual, birthday, marriage and volunteer leaves. In addition, the company provides 20 weeks of fully paid maternity leave and 50 days of paternity leave for male employees, exceeding statutory requirements. In 2024, BOC Life introduced the first-ever Care Leave to further enhance workplace happiness and employee satisfaction."

Inspiring Team Spirit Through Diverse Communication and Collaboration

¡§BOC Life takes a holistic approach to employee development, focusing on three dimensions: corporate culture, employee core competencies, and talent growth. Training programs are carefully designed based on annual business plans, HR strategies, and the Annual Employee Training Needs survey assessments, to best suit our needs.¡¨
BOC Life has organized cross-departmental team building events under the theme of "Communication and Collaboration in Action" for the past two consecutive years. In 2024, the company launched team building programs for key cross-departmental employees, reinforcing teamwork and synergy across the organization.

Developing Strong Leaders
Building Winning Teams

To enhance organizational competencies and competitive advantages, BOC Life designed a multi-dimensional "Training and Development Course Framework" for staff development.

"We designed the ¡¥Excellent People Management Accreditation Program¡¦ tailored for people managers to strengthen their leadership and management capabilities. We have also established a Talent Pool Program to identify, nurture, and prepare high-potential employees for management roles. In 2024, about 15% of employees joined the Talent Pool Program, with approximately 58% of them participated in cross-business unit job attachments and rotations to gain diverse and practical experience while acquiring new skills beyond their existing roles". The success of the Talent Pool Program is underscored by its zero attrition rate in 2024, demonstrating its effectiveness in retaining top talent.

Commenting on the company¡¦s success, Rita concluded, ¡§BOC Life sustains its leadership position in Hong Kong¡¦s life insurance market, the company achieved a record-high in its new business growth in 2024. Our industry-leading employee retention rate is a remarkable showcase of our comprehensive talent development strategy ¡V a critical enabler to nurture strong leaders while building a winning team, contributing to the company¡¦s high-quality growth.¡¨
