Wal-Mart says 110 Shenzhen jobs lost

06 Nov 2007

A reorganization of Wal-Mart's global purchasing center in Shenzhen will result in 110 jobs being lost, the world's biggest retailer said yesterday as it rejected a media report that it planned to shed more than 1,000 people.

The 21st Century Business Herald had said Wal-Mart would fire 1,200 people as it was moving its procurement center to lower-cost countries. But Wal- Mart China spokesman Jonathan Dong said that number was "inaccurate."
