HONG KONG, September 22, 2015 - UPS (NYSE:UPS) bolsters its Asia Pacific management team with the appointment of Steven Wong as Managing Director of Hong Kong and Macau. Bringing over 30 years of experience in the freight forwarding industry, Wong will lead UPS's package and supply chain operations in the two markets. He will report directly to K.K. Leung, President of UPS North Asia District.
"Hong Kong, with its strategic location and well-established transportation network, will continue to be an important international business hub. The increasing number of small and medium-sized businesses looking to expand overseas and the rising middle class in Asia will spur more trade opportunities. Our customers need a reliable partner to navigate global markets and harness the opportunities of changing trade patterns," said Leung.
"Steven brings tremendous value to the team with his knowledge of Asian markets and his ability to support customers by leveraging UPS's comprehensive logistics portfolio. He has driven UPS's freight forwarding operations in the Asia Pacific region in the last 10 years, more notably in his last role as Vice President of Airfreight in UPS Asia Pacific Freight Forwarding," Leung added
According to Euromonitor, intra-Asia trade is expected to expand from fast-growing consumer spending in China and the ASEAN nations. ASEAN's consumer expenditure alone is forecast to grow by 105% in real terms by 2030.1 As a gateway between China and ASEAN, UPS expects business trends in intra-Asia trade and the global economy to strengthen Hong Kong's role as one of Asia's most important gateways.
"Hong Kong is one of the largest suppliers of technology imports into China, and with Chinese manufacturers expanding beyond Asia into Europe and North America2, having a reliable logistics partner in Hong Kong can give these manufacturers significant competitive advantages. UPS Hong Kong・s strong network, with 60 weekly flights to and from Hong Kong International Airport, and best-in-class service from Hong Kong to Europe in 24 hours, provide manufacturers in Southern China with outstanding connection to Europe and the world," said Wong.
Wong joined UPS in 2006 and has held various managerial roles in UPS・s supply chain and freight forwarding operations in China, working closely with Chinese exporters to offer UPS・s logistics solutions and freight capabilities as they expand their businesses throughout Asia. Wong takes over from William Ng, who is now the Regional Strategy Director for UPS Asia Pacific based in Singapore.
